The Ex-Sellsword
Zael is commander of the knights of Lazulis Castle. He was once a sellsword.
He emerged a hero in the war with the gurak race by vanquishing first their leader and then Dagran, a fellow mercenary who turned out to be the true mastermind behind the conflict. Zael loved Dagran like a brother but ultimately slew him with his own hand, a memory that haunts him to this day.
After the war, Zael was knighted and went on to save the planet itself from crisis.
The Knight
The aftermath left the land devastated, however. The calamity reported by Lady Calista sent shockwaves throughout the empire, sparking widespread research efforts.
These efforts confirmed that there was a way to revitalize the planet, albeit gradually.
The seafarer Yurick and the nature guardian Mirania are credited with the discovery.
A foundation set up by their old friends Lowell and Syrenne reportedly funded their research.
The Outsider King
When Calista left Lazulis Castle to pursue imperial politics, Zael stepped down as commander of the Lazulis knights and accompanied her.
He established a new order of knighthood along with Sir Therius, an old acquaintance now widely hailed as the finest general in the history of the empire.
The new order was founded on two guiding principles: honor the spirit of chivalry, and do what you must do with conviction.
In time, Zael acquired a castle of his own and was venerated as the Outsider King.
He and Calista were married at last. It's said their wedding day marked the pinnacle of Calista's imperial career.Profile (Wii)[]
After losing his entire family at a young age, he has known little more than the life of a mercenary, wandering through desolate lands from one battlefield to another.
Zael has grown tired of the everyday fighting needed to simply feed himself, and dreams one day of becoming a knight. Little does he know that a mysterious encounter on his first mission on Lazulis Island will change his life forever...
