The Dreamer

Y'apkar is a 23-year-old lizardman who dreams of proving himself as a Magitek knight.

He idolizes the Magitek knight hero of a popular picture book and aspires to follow in his footsteps.

Although blessed with no innate gift for magic, he's managed to improve his casting efficiency and contain adverse reactions through physical training, putting his dream within reach at last.

the Quixotic

Y'apkar yearns deeply for the princess portrayed in his picture book. He believes that one day, he too will meet a woman worth protecting at any cost.

It is largely for her that he pursues his dream so tirelessly.

the Magitek Knight

Y'apkar now seeks greater strength to ready himself for the inevitable day he risks everything to protect his princess.

He is now clad in armor designed to utilize his meager magic as effectively as possible. It optimizes both casting efficiency and ranged accuracy--perfect for his magical ranged attacks.

The control system for the latter projects calculations directly into his brain via a special pulse.

Y'apkar says that when it does, he hears a beautiful voice in his head--one that fits his storybook princess perfectly.

The control system's program was later named after her at his behest.

With Palpa

"Hmm, something seems off..."

Y'apkar gazed at Palpa critically. It was the first time he had ever encountered a real princess, and she didn't quite fit the image somehow.

The object of a Magitek knight's sworn devotion should be a bit more... How to put it...

She would practically glow with the light rebounding off her glittering golden dress and flowing flaxen hair.

Her fingernails would be vividly painted in all the colors of the rainbow.

Her bosom would be ample--yet not distastefully so.

The subtle blush of her cheeks would complement soft, rosy lips.

Her long, fine lashes would arc skyward as though reaching for the heavens. Her eyebrows would taper as gracefully as finely crafted blades.

Her upper arms would be soft and springy--like marshmallows--and her figure would boast curves as heavenly as those of a crescent moon.

Fine silverwork would entwine her arms, and her dress would flare elegantly to reveal lithe and shapely legs.

Ah, how could he forget? Her eyes would shine as clear and bright as a tranquil lake on a cloudless day.

Hmmm, what else...

Y'apkar's idea of a princess is perhaps a tad romanticized.

After Chapter 30

The Magitek knight in the picture book gives his life to protect his princess.

As the end of their long struggle approached, the final scene of the book resurfaced in Y'apkar's mind.

But the reality that unfolded before his eyes was nothing like that tragically beautiful ending.

Instead, the princess chose to sacrifice herself...and no one stopped her. Respecting her decision, everyone simply stood by and watched.

But Y'apkar couldn't bear to just shrug it off and move on. The memory of that noble and loving princess should live on.

* * *

"Once upon a time, there lived a gallant princess. Dreaming of a brighter future, she gave her life for love."

Y'apkar's own picture book opened with these words. It would go on to become a beloved and enduring classic.
