Chapter 24: Seek and Destroy[]
Gleaming a dull silver, the ship descends
gracefully from the skies.
It is the Oxsecians.
"Something's raining down from that ship!"
A steady stream of hovering war machines
drops from the Oxsecian vessel.
Aerial fighters.
Pepropé bellows:
"They mean to conquer all or destroy
that which they cannot possess!"
"Hmph, it's always far easier to destroy
than to protect."
"The more the merrier! Bring it on!"
As the battle rages on, a figure of obvious
importance looks on with a detached air.
"Like most parasites, they are tenacious,
aren't they..."
Hearing this, an officer standing to the
side verbally lashes his subordinates.
"Do not fail in His Excellency's presence!"
He then barks out orders.
"Annihilate them! Incinerate them, ecosystem
be damned!"
The aliens evidently have no intention of
softening their belligerent stance.
You reach a place that offers a sweeping
view of the sky, but your blood runs cold at
the sight that greets you.
The Oxsecian aerial fighters have
already taken the area.
The planet's creatures roar and rampage,
enraged at the alien incursion.
"Launch preparations complete."
The Oxsecians have initiated a strike
intended to wipe out all resistance
in one fell swoop.
The Oxsecians launch an assualt in pursuit
of their prey.
They want nothing more than to destroy
every last one of you.
You must remain ever vigilant, for the
Oxsecians are not your only foes.
The alien beasts of this world make no
distinction between you and the Oxsecians.
To them, you are both prey.
The battlefield descends into utter chaos.
With two sets of predators hunting the same
prey, the battle escalates into a brutal struggle
from which there is no escape.
"Did I not command you to incinerate them?"
"That is easier said than done when they fight
so desperately--"
"Incinerate them. We have the requisite power."
"S-surely you don't mean to resort to...!"
Pepropé senses something chilling--
an oppressive force surging toward you.
"Such malevolence..."
"Malevolence?"
Palpa is quick to note Pepropé's
grave tone, and an indefinable dread
creeps over her.
Intuition tells her that something is
coming--something in an entirely
different league from those aerial
fighters.
"The parasites have backbone, it seems.
Fall back for now. We will regroup."
"Wait! I'm picking up a strange signal..."
Diminutive figures flicker into view on the
Oxsecian ship's monitors.
"They look like...children? I don't understand."
The childlike figures bear a strong resemblance
to the Oxsecians. Silence falls.
Instinct urges the Oxsecian soldiers to make
their next move: a hasty retreat.
