The Archer
Grace of Thanvarahaer lives with her huntsman father deep in the mountains. She is about 15 years old, though her exact age is unknown since her father is a rather careless sort. She can commune with wild animals, and while she deeply respects them, she will hunt them in order to survive. She is already a better shot with the bow than her father at long ranges.
The Markswoman
"This should be sufficient for tonight's supper," said Grace, effortlessly hoisting a mighty bear's carcass onto her back.
The Ranger
"My thanks, O gods of the forest, for this bounty of life." With these words, Grace loosed an arrow into the sky in a ritual of gratitude to the heavens. But one should remember that what goes up must come down. Beware of falling arrows when Grace is around!
After Chapter 22
"I've never seen a forest like this before."
Gazing about the alien landscape, Grace thought back to the woodlands of her childhood.
Sunlight filtering through the trees, the scent of fresh foliage and water, fallen leaves soft underfoot. If such a place as paradise exists, she hoped it would be like the woods of her homeland.
But the forest on this planet was far from paradise. It was full of eerie places that reeked faintly of decay.
Lightly hefting a large rotted tree, Grace stared at it intently.
"I wonder if there's anything I can do..."
With Andelucia
- After Chapter 23
After arriving on the alien planet, the party had little choice but to forge a path through the wilderness.
Grace sneezed, evidently allergic to the pollen here.
"Here, use this."
Mopping perspiration from her face with one hand, Andelucia produced a second handkerchief from her pocket with the other and offered it to Grace.
"Ah, thank you so much!"
"No problem."
As she spoke, Andelucia crumpled her thoroughly sweat-soaked handkerchief into a ball and stuffed it into her pocket.
Grace found this slightly odd but decided to dismiss it as nothing.
When Andelucia withdrew her hand again, a crumpled ball followed and fell to the ground, dragging Grace's gaze with it.
Seeing this, Andelucia breezily explained, "Oh, I used this one when I had a cold the other day."
Grace remembered Andelucia blowing her nose into a handkerchief with all her might. This was apparently that handkerchief.
"Uh, why keep that in your pocket?"
"I figure it's still good for at least one more use," Andelucia replied with a shrug. Picking it up, she stuffed it into her pocket once more.
Grace could only smile weakly in response as her eyes shifted between Andelucia and the borrowed handkerchief in her own hand.Gallery[]
